We recently had the exciting opportunity to collaborate with Hatch Embroidery by Wilcom on a tutorial created specifically for the Hatch user community. The feature, now published on the official Hatch Embroidery website, focuses on a practical finishing method that allows embroiderers to turn completed pet portraits and designs into ready-to-display wall art.

The tutorial demonstrates how to mount a finished embroidery piece onto a stretched canvas frame. This approach offers a modern, lightweight alternative to traditional glass framing, keeping the final piece clean and professional — perfect for home decor or personalized gifts.

A grid of seven square white canvases mounted on a wall, each featuring a different embroidered animal portrait, including various dog breeds (dachshund, pug, dalmatian, bulldog, etc.) and a cat.

About the Tutorial

Developed as an educational resource for users of the Hatch Embroidery software ecosystem, this guest feature includes:

  • A step-by-step walkthrough of the canvas-mounting process
  • Technical considerations for sizing, fabric tension, and design placement
  • A free embroidery design created by our studio, available for download on the Hatch website so users can practice the technique immediately

Rather than focusing solely on digitizing, this collaboration highlights the finishing stage — an essential step in ensuring embroidery is presented at its best.

Purpose of the Collaboration

This project was built to share real-world production knowledge with the wider embroidery community. By combining a clear finishing technique with a downloadable design, the tutorial allows Hatch Embroidery users to:

  • Apply new mounting techniques using a ready-made professional file
  • Understand how to adapt embroidery for non-traditional display formats
  • Explore creative ways to add value to finished hobbyist or small-business projects
